GURGAON: Cyber frauds have allegedly cheated two women of Rs 20 lakh after offering them work-from-home jobs.
Cyber cops said on Wednesday that both the cases have similar modus operandi. The accused allegedly WhatsApp messages, asking the women to share and subscribe to videos in return for payments.
A 26-year-old resident of South City-1 received a WhatsApp message, offering a WFH job earlier this May.

Initially, she was asked to subscribe two popular YouTube channels.
"I received Rs 150 for each subscription and review. They directed me to Telegram and gave me more tasks to do. The accused further asked me to invest Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 and by the end of the month, I received Rs 27,000," said the complainant, adding that she trusted and invested Rs 10.47 lakh in multiple transactions but "the fraudsters stopped responding".
Following a written complaint on June 1, the Cyber Crime police station registered an FIR on July 11. "After a detailed investigation into the matter, the accused have been booked under section 420 (cheating) of the IPC and relevant section of the Information Technology Act. Teams have been formed to nab the accused," said Gurgaon police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
Another 26-year-old resident of Sector 46 told cyber police Gurgaon that she was duped Rs 10.2 lakh.

"I received a virtual job offer on WhatsApp and Telegram on July 1. I had to like videos on the Moj application and YouTube. I was asked to share screen grabs after completing the task. I had invested Rs 10.2 lakh, after which the fraudsters asked me to deposit another Rs 8 lakh to withdraw Rs 10.2 lakh," the complainant told Cyber police (east). She shared the screengrabs of multiple transactions.
Following a written complaint made on July 3, police on July 11 registered an FIR under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the IT Act.
